Services

Our services fall under the following three categories

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is the foundation of behavioral health treatment. It is a non-medication approach to treating mental illness. The technique is patient-focused and rooted in empathy. During psychotherapy, a therapist and patient will work together to identify and use the patient’s strengths to his or her advantage.

We employ an eclectic mix of techniques that support the use of varied modalities. We believe that your thoughts affect your feelings, your feelings affect your behavior, your behavior affects your thoughts…and so on. However, we acknowledge the roles that past experiences, defense mechanisms, and existential truisms play in the occurrence of day-to-day difficulties. Much of what you have been experiencing during your most difficult periods is probably…are you ready for it….NORMAL. Believe it or not, based on your past experiences and your core beliefs, the manner in which you have endeavored to co-exist with others and the world at large is normal for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Therapy is an extremely personal an intimate experience. If you've never been in a talk therapy situation, rest assured that after your first visit with me you will feel comfortable, reassured, and have a better understanding of how the process works. It can be a bit intimidating to come into a new situation and be expected to talk about yourself and your issues. I acknowledge this; thus, I and take time to address all of your questions and concerns during the first session.

  • An average therapy session lasts between 45 & 60 minutes . Longer sessions are available but must be coordinated with Dr. Dobbins ahead of time.

  • Dr. Dobbins is credentialed with all major insurance carriers including Anthem/ Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, Cigna, United/Optum, Aetna, Humana, Amerigroup and several different EAP company throughout the United States.

  • Unless the visiting person is participating in the session, we ask that you refrain from bringing extra people to your scheduled session unless this has been approved by Dr. Dobbins ahead of time and arrangements have been made.

  • Most times we only ask that you bring yourself and an open mind to a scheduled session. However, we've also found that it can be quite helpful to have something to write on, like a notebook, to jot down ideas and homework assignments. Other than that, any documents such as identification and insurance information should be transmitted to the office ahead of time.

  • Minor children begin their initial session with at least one parent in the room with them. Usually by the second or third session, the minor client will be invited to the participate in therapy without the parent there. What this looks like is typically a 5 to 10 minute check-in at the beginning of the timeslot, and then 30 to 40 minutes of individual session time, concluded with a 5 to 10 minute wrap-up with us all together. Parents always have the right option to ask for information regarding their child's individual session, but we commonly ask that parents refrain from doing so in an effort to get keep the sessions moving in a positive direction with open communication. Anything that is critical for a parent to know or to be a part of, Dr. Dobbins, with the agreement of the minor client, will share that information at the appropriate time.

  • Both virtual and in-person sessions are available. Dr. Dobbins will advise if a session needs to be only in-person.

  • Under special circumstances , I may extend a sliding scale fee to our clients. Inquire directly if you have a special circumstance that needs consideration.

  • Treatment length will always vary from client to client. One client may require a short-term course of treatment for no more than 3 or 4 sessions. Another client may require a longer course of treatment to thoroughly assist in improving and increasing daily functioning. The suggested course will be discussed during your first session.

  • Actually, you will determine what we work on! It is always it is important that clients know and be reminded that their therapy is truly their individual process and journey . During the first session you will be invited to share your goals for therapy. During that time, we will, together, decide on your official therapy goals . Periodically, as we are working together, we will revisit to make sure we are still on track.
