About

I look forward to connecting with you!

I am Omi Dobbins and ever since I was very young I have had an interest in working with people. I knew very early on that when I pursued postsecondary training, it would definitely include something in the counseling field. I have worked since 2000 with children and families, primarily. My experience spans across various settings from psychiatric hospitals and public health installments, to counseling agencies and schools. I have worked extensively with families in crisis and/or transition, troubled youth, married and cohabiting couples and adults experiencing adjustment issues. Additionally, I am highly skilled in academic, post-secondary and career advisement counseling, as I have worked since 2008 as a certified school counselor. My therapy work with families that include children and individual work with adolescents typically includes work related to these areas. If you are seeking a therapist who is personable, knowledgeable and discrete, I invite you to consult with me at no charge for 15 minutes.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a Master of Arts degree in Psychology with a specialization in Professional Counseling and a Doctor of Education in Counseling Psychology. I am EMDR trained and have extensive experience working with grief. I have served as a speaker for many training and enrichment events around Georgia, as well as a panelist for several podcasts and vlogs. Therapy is something that I am passionate about, and I believe that helping to increase the knowledge base of my clients is a critical part of the process.

In supplement to my qualifications, I spent 4 years researching my key area of interest; Perinatal Mood Disorders and the effect it has on women and their immediate circle of support. Perinatal refers to the period of time during and immediately after pregnancy. We formally use the term postpartum , but more recently have elective for the term perinatal to also include period time during pregnancy. Perinatal mood disturbances refers to Baby Blues, Postpartum Depression and other related areas of postpartum pathology (such as anxiety and psychosis). Anxiety, Low Mood, Hyper-vigilence, Tearfulness, Restlessness, Sleep Irregularity, Changes in Weight, Fatigue, Disturbing Thoughts, and Thoughts of Suicide or harm to the baby commonly accompany Perinatal Mood Disorders. Other related areas of care include Miscarriage and Infant Death. Individual, Couples, Family and Group Counseling are available to address any of these issues.

Allow me to assist you in discovering the truth behind your behavior, decisions, emotions and thoughts.

I am committed to helping you conclude whether or not what you have been doing before now is working for you and your best-case scenario.
